The Australian Writers’ Guild is the professional association representing writers for stage, screen, radio and online and has protected their creative and professional interests for almost 60 years.

The Guild’s vision is to see performance writing and performance writers thrive as a dynamic and integral part of Australian storytelling, shaping, reflecting and enhancing the Australian cultural voice in all its diversity.

AWG provides industrial advice to members as well as professional development and networking opportunities. It hosts an annual calendar of competitions, including the prestigious AWGIE Awards.

AWG seeks a Membership Officer:

  • To provide frontline member services to AWG members by facilitating administration, member subscription and service requests
  • To provide frontline member services to AWG members by facilitating administration, member subscription and service requests
  • To manage membership matters, including financials in conjunction with Finance Manager
  • To maintain and grow the AWG’s membership base by implementing strategies devised by the Executive Director and Member Services and Communications Manager
  • To provide administrative support to Professional Development Manager when needed  

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities will include a strong focus on:

  • Dealing with AWG member enquiries
  • Managing new memberships and member renewals
  • Processing member payments and invoices
  • Maintaining the AWG member database
  • Contributing to membership drives and retention
  • Supplying membership information and analysis to AWG internally through AWG member database reports
  • Implementing member attraction and retention strategies
  • Processing script assessments
  • Processing script registrations
  • Processing Final Draft sales
  • Assisting with preeminent member events and professional development projects e.g. AWGIE Awards: administrative support, judges, etc.
  • Managing reception/front of house, including public enquiries
  • Managing AWG admin email inbox and diverting to relevant staff members
  • Answering AWG telephone calls and diverting to relevant staff members
  • Managing office tasks including stationery orders, catering, petty cash/banking, building services, facilities management, office supplies and mailroom services

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED

Key skills required in this position are:

  • The ability to engage with all levels of the membership
  • High standard of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional understanding of AWG members and their needs
  • The ability to resolve member enquiries in a timely manner
  • The ability to work autonomously while exercising time management skills
  • Technical skills to maintain AWG admin email inbox, database and oversee website functionality
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Telephone answering skills and the ability to divert calls to appropriate team members
