RMIT: Scripts needed for Script Evaluation Project

RMIT is currently seeking Feature film screenplays or TV pilot scripts to receive FREE comprehensive evaluation as part of RMIT’s Advanced Diploma of Screenwriting 2022 Script Evaluation subject.

As part of this subject, students are taught and guided on how to provide industry-level script consultation and assessment by teacher & filmmaker Tim Marshall alongside a series of guest from the film industry, including some of the US and Australia’s top script consultants.

Guidelines for submitting:

- Feature film scripts 80 - 110 pages

- TV Pilot scripts 30 - 70 pages

- Scripts including explicit content (violence/abuse, sexually explicit, culturally sensitive content) may not be considered, or may need to be assigned to students carefully. If you’re script includes this, or deals with content that may be triggering for students please flag this and include detail about the content and justification for it upon submission.

- Scripts are not guaranteed inclusion from submission 

What you need to submit:

- Your script (a complete draft) - we encourage you to add copyright to front page eg. ‘© copyright, 2023 Your Name’ and also watermark with ‘RMIT University’ – Scripts are kept confidential and not shared outside class or made public in any way.

- A maximum 1 page writer’s statement MUST accompany the script.

 What you could include in your writer’s statement:

  • A short 1-paragraph synopsis of your script
  • The intended genre tone or style of the script
  • Why you’re writing this story – any background that might be useful / what drew you to the story / why are you passionate about it?
  • Are you exploring any themes with the script? If so, what are they?
  • What draft are you up to and what are you hoping to work on for the next draft?
  • What are your aspirations for the project? Eg. Make it in Australia? Have it play on a certain streaming service? Have it reach a certain audience? 

It’s up to you what you include in your writer’s statement, we require it so the assigned student can have more of understanding of the script from your perspective!

Submit your script and writer’s statement ASAP as numbers are limited. To do this email Tim – [email protected].au.

Submission deadline is Friday 17th February 2023.

If your script is accepted, you’ll receive:

- A minimum 2 page comprehensive script report/evaluation. Reports will be emailed out in April 2023.

- Participate in a minimum 20-minute follow up meeting (via Zoom) with your student script evaluator to ask follow up questions and clarify any feedback. (April 2023) – Please note if accepted you are required to participate in this meeting as it is part of student assessment.

You are welcome to provide more than 1 script but register your interest promptly as once we have reached our script limit, that'll be it.
