The Australian Writers’ Guild is introducing a new service, Deal Runners, that provides members with individual contract negotiation and residual tracking. In addition to the existing free legal and contract advice already offered as part of your AWG membership, members now have the option of engaging the AWG to negotiate directly with producers and their lawyers on your behalf. At the helm of the negotiation team is Craig Collie – a former senior TV executive & producer. Craig has read Law and has extensive experience of production and high-level negotiation. Craig is the ideal advocate for writers in negotiation with producers. All contracts negotiated through Deal Runners will automatically be registered for residuals tracking. For a small administrative fee, the AWG will also track residuals on contracts that have not been negotiated by Deal Runners. Deal Runners is not an agency and we do not seek out new work for individual writers. Our purpose is to negotiate on behalf of any member writer who engages the service, once a job has been secured. We fight for the deal, not the job. A directory of agents will be made available on the AWG website for all members seeking agency representation and career guidance and professional representation that Agents provide. Agents are also welcome to make use of the service on behalf of their AWG member clients where additional legal advice is considered necessary.
