What is it?
Scripted Ink, Screentime and Nine will work together to select three writers through a competitive process to take part in a six-week program, aimed at developing a number of potential drama projects.
Three writers will be selected by executives from Scripted Ink, Screentime and the Nine Network to take part in the Hothouse. The writers will be paid industry rates to convene in a writer’s room for three days per week over six weeks from the week of 15 October 2018 until the week of 19 November 2018. In these brainstorm sessions, the writers will collectively brainstorm six one-hour commercial TV dramas (two each). Executives from the Nine Network, Scripted Ink and Screentime will provide guidance and feedback through this process.
At the completion of the brainstorm process, the writers will be paid to write pitch documents for their drama projects and will then pitch them to Nine Network executives. One drama project will be chosen to go into active development for the Nine Network.
The five remaining projects will be optioned by Screentime for six months under AWG approved “Shopping Agreements”.
The chosen drama project will be optioned by Screentime under terms approved by the AWG and the writer of that project will be engaged to plot and write a series bible and at least one script for the chosen series.
How will the writers be chosen?
Current members of the AWG Pathways Program, and other experienced writers of one-hour dramas and narrative comedies, will be invited to apply. Applicants will be asked to provide:
All applicants must be fully paid up members of the AWG.
The successful three writers will be selected from an initial long list of ten. Those ten long-listed writers will be inducted into the AWG Pathways Program (if they are not already Pathways members).
