Australian Writers' Guild unveils new tagline

15 March, 2017

The Australian Writers’ Guild is excited to announce our new tagline: Protecting and Promoting Writers’ Rights – on Screen, on Stage, on Air.

The new tagline is the result of a competition launched late last year, in which members were asked to think about a phrase that cuts to the heart of the Guild’s purpose, identity and value.

We appealed to our members to think about what the Guild means to them, and to use their imaginations – and their writing prowess – to suggest something catchy and easy to understand, which would answer the age-old question, who are we? And more importantly, who are we to our members?

The Guild would like to congratulate both Mark Bowling and Shannon Morrison, whose entries were combined to create the final tagline, a phrase we believe captures the purpose and identity of the Guild.

With well over 100 entries, the Board had a tough time selecting a final winner. We were particularly impressed by those members who picked up on the opportunity for some great writer and rights puns, and those who took a more poetic approach to the tagline.

However, it quickly became clear that there were two key Guild values that our members prioritised – protecting and promoting Australian writers and their rights. With this in mind, the new tagline represents both the Guild and its many members and our core purpose and value – to champion, protect and promote the rights and achievements of Australian writers on screen, on stage and on air.

The new tagline can currently be seen on the AWG website, and will be progessively released across all of our media and communication platforms over the next few weeks.
