Competitions

The Australian Writers’ Guild runs numerous competitions throughout the year for produced and unproduced scripts across multiple genres and formats. Current and upcoming competitions are listed below. 

Competitions are judged by industry panels, with shortlisted and winning writers from most competitions made eligible for inclusion on AWG's Pathways program. Please see the individual competition guidelines for more information regarding eligibility and prizes. 

2024 KEY DATES

The John Hinde Award is closed for entries. You can read about the shortlisted entries HERE. 

The AWG Emerging Writers' Awards is closed for entries. Shortlisted writers will be announced in July 2024.

The Shane and Cathryn Brennan Prize for Playwriting is open for entries. Entries close Monday 3 June. Click HERE to read more and enter.

Entries for the 57th Annual AWGIE Awards will open in mid-2024. The 56th Annual AWGIE Awards were celebrated on Thursday 15 February 2024 in Sydney. Watch the livestream HERE.
