The Australian Writers’ Guild runs numerous competitions throughout the year for produced and unproduced scripts across multiple genres and formats.
Current and upcoming competitions are listed below.
Competitions are judged by industry panels, with shortlisted and winning writers from most competitions made eligible for inclusion on AWG’s Pathways program. Please see the individual competition guidelines for more information regarding eligibility and prizes.
COMPETITION DATES
The 59th Annual AWGIE Awards are currently open for entries. Entries close Thursday 17 September 2026. Find out more and enter here.
The Shane and Cathryn Brennan Prize for Playwriting is closed for entries for 2026. The shortlist will be announced in November 2026.
The Emerging Writers’ Awards are closed for entries for 2026. The winners can be found here. Entries for the 2027 Emerging Writers’ Awards will open in early 2027.
The John Hinde Award is closed for entries for 2026. The winners can be found here. Entries for the 2027 John Hinde Award will open in early 2027.
