The John Hinde Award for Excellence in Science-Fiction Writing was established to encourage, reward and foster creativity in the development and showcasing of Australian science-fiction writing for film, television, web series and interactive media. 

Funded by a bequest from the late Australian film critic John Hinde, the award offers $10,000 in prize money to be shared among winning writers across produced and unproduced categories.

The 2025 John Hinde Award will open Wednesday 5 March and will close 5pm (AEDT) Wednesday 2 April 2025. 

ENTRY CHECKLIST

1. Make sure you've read the full Information Kit and entry guidelines before completing the below form. 

2. Ensure you have your full script, one-page synopsis and logline combined as a single PDF. 

3. Ensure that your name does NOT appear anywhere on the full script, one-page synopsis or logline PDF. If your script includes a Title Page, please ensure your name and any identifying information is removed. 

4. Click your preferred category below and complete the entry form, including your name and details and the details of the script. You do not upload your PDF at this point. Once the entry form is complete, click Submit. 

5. Complete the payment information page and pay for your entry. 

6. After completing payment, you will receive an email containing a link to the competitions tab of your AWG account. From there, you can upload your PDF (containing your logline, one-page synopsis and script) using the upload button next to the John Hinde Award entry listing. If you have entered both the Produced and Unproduced categories, please ensure the file you upload corresponds to the correct category.
