Anthropic Lawsuit update from US Authors Guild

The American Authors Guild has provided an update on the Bartz v. Anthropic lawsuit, advising that an agreement to settle has been reached.

The class action lawsuit was filed by author plaintiffs against Anthropic, alleging the AI firm used copyrighted books downloaded from pirate websites to train its Large Language Model (LLM).

It has been reported that Anthropic has agreed to pay $1.5 billion (USD) as part of the settlement, making it the largest US copyright settlement of all time.

The Australian Writers’ Guild believes it is possible works by Australian playwrights may have been downloaded and used to train Anthropic’s LLM.

If you think there is a chance Anthropic downloaded your works from the pirate websites Library Genesis (“LibGen”) and Pirate Library Mirror (“PiLiMi”), you can fill out this contact form to be notified by the lawyers representing the class action with information about the settlement.
