Have you ever thought about making the jump to Los Angeles to accelerate your screenwriting career? Have you started to lay the groundwork for ongoing connections and collaborations in Hollywood? Join us for this special AWG webinar full of practical advice live from LA.
Drawing on over two decades of experience working with Australian talent in Los Angeles, Isabel Pappani (American by birth) will rely on her network of professionals to report on practical insights into what’s happening in Hollywood today, what she wishes more Australian writers would know about moving to the U.S. and advice on relationship-building across the Pacific.
In conversation with Loani Arman, Isabel will dive into: whether now is the right time to pursue a jump to Hollywood, what you should do to prepare, and current visa timelines and expectations, what U.S. managers, agents, and buyers are actively looking for in today’s market, why more co-productions are coming to town (and how you can use this to your advantage), practical strategies for building relationships that convert into opportunities over the long term and tips on navigating the U.S. industry from Australia or during short-term visits.
There will be time for questions so please come prepared!
ABOUT THE PRESENTERS
With a career spanning nearly 30 years in the entertainment industry, Isabel Pappani has been a dedicated advocate for Australian talent over the last two decades. In 1999, she was hired by James Murdoch to join the then newly-formed NewsCorp Music Group, where she helped champion Australian independent music in film and television productions across the U.S. Based in Los Angeles, she went on to become the first LA-based representative for APRA AMCOS. She most recently served as Director of Programs and Membership for Australians in Film for nearly ten years, where she supported countless Australian writers navigating the Los Angeles industry landscape, and became known for her ability to make meaningful introductions and connecting creatives. An expert moderator and facilitator, she has also led hundreds of workshops, labs, and industry conversations for emerging and established talent alike. Isabel currently lives in Pasadena and buys too many houseplants.
Moderator Loani Arman is a writer and director who believes that the stories we tell can shape the world we live in. With a career built on bringing underrepresented voices to the screen, she has also been a Commissioning Editor at SBS and Content Director at Screen Queensland.
This event is free but RSVPs are essential.
