Members of the Australian Screen Industry Group Submission to the Streaming Services Reporting and Investment Scheme Discussion Paper

The Australian Writers' Guild, along with 13 other preeminent screen industry guilds and associations representing the interests of thousands of Australian screen industry practitioners in front of and behind the camera, has responded to the Government's Streaming Services Reporting and Investment Scheme​​ in a joint submission to the discussion paper.


AWG announces First Break NSW Participants

Successful applicants have been announced in the AWG’s First Break NSW program. From over 225 entries, the panel has selected 12 writers who will participate in the program, starting in June 2022.


Update on the Streaming Services Reporting and Investment Scheme discussion paper

​Submissions to the ‘Streaming Services Reporting and Investment Scheme’ Discussion Paper were due on 24 April 2022. Many of the issues that the AWG has raised in its submission have been addressed at length in our past submissions including, most recently, to the ‘Modernising television regulation in Australia – Media Reform Green Paper’.


SBS Emerging Writers’ Incubator returns, supporting greater diversity in Australian screenwriting

Applications are open for the SBS Emerging Writers’ Incubator, a nationwide initiative from SBS in partnership with Screen Australia, state and territory agencies Screen NSW, Screen Queensland, Screen Territory, Screenwest, the South Australian Film Corporation and VicScreen, and with the assistance of the Australian Writers’ Guild, supporting the development of under-represented screenwriting talent.


Vale Alan Hopgood: A tribute by Judith Colquhoun

With the death two weeks ago of Alan Hopgood AM, the Guild has lost one of its most illustrious members, while those of us who knew Hoppy have lost a wise, witty and generous friend, whose company was always a joy.
